Northeast Announcements
Parent Drop-Off/Pick-Up Plan
It's hard to believe we are in the beginning of January with virtually no snow.  I am writing to communicate and/or clarify our Northeast Elementary expectations for dropping-off and picking-up your children at our school.  We have been fortunate with our weather but experience tells me that when we start to get colder temperatures and significant snow that our traffic becomes even more congested than it already is.  Please click here to read more and view our Drop-off and Pick-up Map.
PTO's Luau Fun Night at Northeast

It's a Luau Theme!

2012-13 Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration for the 2012-2013 school year will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2012.

If you have a child who will be five years of age on or before September 15, 2012, please plan to attend kindergarten registration at your neighborhood attendance center. Due to increased enrollment at the elementary level and limited space, parents are encouraged to enroll their eligible kindergartners on February 2nd. No registrations will be taken prior to February 2nd.

A complete set of necessary registration forms will be available online after January 11th. If possible, please bring all completed forms to the registration meeting. The forms will also be available at the elementary that evening. Along with the forms, please bring proof of birth date along with a copy of the child’s immunization records to the registration meeting.

The registration meeting is for parents only. We ask no children attend this meeting.

Please contact your neighborhood elementary office or the Registrar at registrar@ankenyschools.org or (515) 289-8955 if you have any questions or concerns.

Running Club with Mr. Larson
Mr. Larson's Running Club for Northeast students begins the week of December 5th through March 14th.  Every Tuesday and Wednesday after school any student in Kindergarten through 5th grade will be offered the opportunity to come to the gym to run.

The Running Club will begin at 2:55 and end promptly at 3:20 pm. Please click here to learn more!

Curriculum Review: It Goes Far Beyond the Textbook
It’s a common misconception: when people think of "curriculum," they often think of a textbook. But, what exactly constitutes a complete "curriculum," and what is involved in reviewing curriculum?  A curriculum review is more than just buying the next set of support materials.  In high-performing school districts, curriculum review is a continuous improvement process.  Read how reviews are changing and curriculum is improving in ACSD.
Changes to 2012-2013 Calendar
On January 9, the School Board approved several adjustments to the 2012-2013 school calendar.  The start of school was moved from August 13 to August 15, 2012.  The scheduled last day of school moved from May 22 to May 23.  Spring break was set for March 15-22, 2013.  Dates for back-to-school nights and P/T conferences are not yet finalized and are will be updated on the calendar at a later date. Download the revised 2012-2013 At-A-Glance Calendar here.
Belin-Blank Center Honors Ankeny Students & Teachers

Five Ankeny students were among the 508 students from Iowa and throughout the nation who were recently invited to be honored at the University of Iowa Belin-Blank Center’s Recognition Ceremony in the Main Lounge of the University of Iowa Memorial Union. The recognition ceremony is held annually as an opportunity to acknowledge those students in grades 4–12 who either earned scores in the top 1% of the Belin-Blank Exceptional Student Talent Search (BESTS); were selected to one of the Belin-Blank scholarship programs; or received special recognition in a Belin-Blank Center program.  Read the full story here.
